About Me…

My name is Finn Thompson, and I am in my final year studying Sound Design (BSc) at Edinburgh Napier University. I got interested in sound design through studying music technology in high school, where I fell in love with creating sound for different forms of media.

Now studying and living in Edinburgh, I have found that I would love to work in the video games industry as a sound designer. Having grown up with video games as a part of my childhood and now adult life, I feel passionate about how vital sound is to bringing the worlds to life.

The idea of working within a team and learning under experienced leadership really appeals to me as I feel it's an environment where I would thrive. I would love to be able to collaborate with other sound designers, share my ideas, and receive feedback, as I know I still have so much to learn. I am also comfortable working independently or within a smaller team and take ownership of tasks when needed. While I am still developing my experience with audio coding and implementation, I set aside time from my studies where I teach myself through personal projects.

Sound is a constant part of my everyday life, and I'm always paying attention to interesting sounds or techniques, usually noting them down so that I can use them later in my own work. I find the process especially rewarding when everything comes together, and the final result sounds immersive and cohesive - it is the best feeling.

Outside of sound design, you'll usually find me playing volleyball, staying active at the gym, or playing video games with my friends.
